We here talk about beauticians and hairdressers because we work most
closely with these professions, but people in many other occupations
are forced to adopt incorrect or forced postures during lengthy periods
of the day.
If beauticians and hairdressers , among many other professional people,
do not adopt correct posture during their working lives they are very
likely to suffer back pains which will prove difficult to eradicate as
these will probably occur in the cervical , central and lumbar regions.
For example, beauticians, on bending over, use their use their back muscles
to support their spine when giving facial and body treatments.
Is sitting the solution?
It is quite easy to find an ergonomically suitable stool or chair which
enables facial treatments to be given without placing undue stress and
tension on the vertebra.
The client’s head should be high enough to avoid the need of bending
over in any stage of the facial treatment. Good lighting is essential
to avoid over exertion of the head and neck.
With regards to body treatments, during demonstrations, we have often
seen how successful masseurs protect their backs: they either sit on
the edge of the table or use a stool on castors.
When giving a treatment which forces us to stand, it is essential to
stand on one leg and take part of the weight off the pelvis by resting
it on the edge of the table.
These simple techniques will ensure a career free from the lumbago and
acute pains so common amongst our beauticians and hairdressers.
And, after a hard day’s work, a massage from the masster plus
will help leave behind the accumulated fatigue of the day.
