Obesity and Cellulite

Obesity predisposes the sufferer to cellulite for several reasons

Lack of physical activity. It is unusual that an obese person practise sport or carry out intense physical activity. Usually, the reverse occurs and the obesity is favoured by the lack of activity and this also favours the appearance and development of cellulite.

This is because with obesity a reduction in circulation occurs generally and locally due to the compressing effect of the endo-abdominal fat on the veins.

Obesity also causes a reduction in breathing, due to the excessive volume of the gut pressing on the diaphragm. This in turn produces a slower organism with lymphatic and circulation difficulties.

Nevertheless, cellulite should not be confused with types of localised manifestations of obesity on the shoulders, trunk, arms and specially the abdomen.

The diagnosis differs on pinching the fatty tissue, which in this case does not show the typical depth of the cellulite granules. The “orange peel” effect of the skin is also absent.

The mass of cellulite tissue is hard, difficult to move and cannot be folded or pinched.

In obese people, cellulite can be increased by use of drastic slimming treatments, which in fact are also one of the major causes.
